A real-time character I created for our graduation project, I:SOL, at HAW Hamburg. This is Yaka, the game’s main character, which I modelled and textured based on a design by our team’s concept artist and animator, Ting Dittmer.
After initially modelling and rigging a proxy model, I revised the blockout following a few design changes and then modelled and retopologised the model in Blender to 31,566 tris. The texturing was done in Substance Painter. I also set up the materials in Unreal Engine to support a cel shader, the 2D face sprites and various emissive indicators.
For the character animations, I carried out the motion capture sessions using the university’s Vicon system, which were later cleaned up and refined by Ting Dittmer.
